Essential oils will strengthen any holistic programme and can be
used in conjunction with herbal and other nutritional
supplements. If you're new to aromatherapy, here are some
simple recipes to get you started:
Lavender/Peppermint Roll-on - ideal for
headaches and travel sickness
1 drop peppermint, 4 drops lavender, grapeseed oil or massage
oil, plus a roll-on bottle. Fill bottle with massage
oil, add the essential oils. Replace top and rock the
bottle back and forth to blend. Apply the blend to your
wrists for a refreshing fragrance.
First-Aid Spritzer - great for burns,
scalds, insect bites and stings
15 drops lavender, 3 drops tea tree, aloe vera gel, water,
plus a spritzer bottle. Fill bottle 1/3 full with aloe
vera gel, add lavender and tea tree. Top up with water and
shake well.
Lavender Clear Skin Toner
6oz distilled water, 3 drops mandarin, 2 drops lemon, 1
tablespoon witch hazel. Combine ingredients in a glass
bottle, shake mixture before use. Toner will have a
shelf-life of about a month.
Refreshing Leg Gel
1/2 cup aloe vera gel, 5 drops eucalyptus, 3 drops tea tree,
1 teaspoon massage oil, 1/2 teaspoon vodka, 3 drops peppermint,
1 capsule super algae. Combine all ingredients in a
glass jar. To thicken this gel, add 1 teaspoon cornstarch.
To make it further stimulate the skin's cells, add the contents
of one capsule of Super Algae. After 30 minutes, rinse off
with lukewarm water.
Help for Thinning Hair
(Hair Loss)
3 drops Thyme linalol, 2 drops rosemary, 1 tablespoon jojoba
oil, 5 drops lavender. Combine the essential oils with
the jojoba in a glass bottle. Rock the bottle back and
forth to warm and blend the oils. Apply to the scalp and
allow the oils to remain on the scalp overnight. Shampoo
your hair the next morning.
Safety rules for using essential oils
All oils must be diluted in vegetable oil, almond oil, jojoba
oil, lotion or some other medium prior to topical use. The
only exceptions to this are lavender and tea-tree
oils. You should never use essential oils near the eyes or
mucous membranes and they should never be consumed
internally.
Do not use essential oils during pregnancy or if you are
undergoing drug therapy, except under the strict advice of a
physician and a fully-qualified aromatherapist.
If you suffer from epilepsy, you should avoid rosemary. If
you suffer from high blood pressure, you should not use rosemary
or thyme. You should also avoid warm baths and Epsom or
other bath salts if you have low or high blood pressure.
